Bouteloua gracilis 'Angel Eyelash®'

Angel Eyelash® Blue Grama

  Buy This Plant

Description

This low growing, compact grass is the shortest showy flowering grass we have ever come upon! Its blue-green foliage makes a tight 6-inch clump that is topped by 4 to 6-inch tall flowers. The flowers emerge in the spring purply-black and mature to tan seedheads that sparkle in late or early light. When in bloom, it is irresistible to not touch its silky seedheads.

Angel Eyelash® is about half the size of the typical species Bouteloua gracilis. A truly miniature flowering grass, it is useful in groups or as an edging along walkways. it does great in containers with succulents and other drought-tolerant perennials or between stepping stones. Angel Eyelash® is especially useful in hot and cold interior climates. Other grasses that it combines well with are Hilarias, other Boutelouas and Buchloe, Festuca mairei, Pennisetum spathiolatum, and any of the muhly grasses.

Our plants were collected in San Bernardino County on the edge of the Mohave Desert at 8500 feet elevation. As far as we know, this clone is the only Bouteloua in the trade that has native California genetics.
